Will Fugitive Scofflaw Zakir Naik Be Caught At All?

Could India’s officialdom be spreading glib lies about attempting to apprehend scofflaw hate-mongering Islamic preacher Zakir Naik?

He has reportedly applied for a Malaysian citizenship in the mainstream media.

Congress apologists and leading lights of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party are trading charges in the matter after Amir Gazdar one of his aides confessed serious wrongdoing on the part of Naik to Mumbai cops.

The real picture can be deduced from the following pointers reproduced from a blog in these columns published a year ago:

Naik’s bigger backers are located beyond the borders of India – many of them in the Middle-East. The current central government has extended olive branches to all of them to “contain terrorism” and expand trade.

Between 2013 and 2015, Naik was conferred several awards in the Middle East.

Dubai International Holy Quran Award

Islamic Personality of 2013 conferred on Naik by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice President, Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Rashid Al Maktoum in 2015 August.

Modi had undertaken a two-day visit to UAE in August, a first by an Indian prime minister in 34 years.

UAE is home to 2.6 million Indians.

During the visit, the two leaders pledged to end terrorism.

On September 19 2015, Rashid Al Maktoum succumbed to a massive heart attack at the age of 33.

King Faisal International Prize

Conferred upon Naik by Saudi King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud

Some of the others who won this award include King Abdullah Ibn Abd AI-Aziz of Saudi Arabia himself, Al Qasimi of UAE, Presidents Dr Hamed AI-Ghabid [Niger] and [Alija Izetbegovig] Bosnia-Herzegovina and Abdou Diouf [Senegal]; Prime Ministers Mahathir Mohammad [Malaysia] and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan [Turkey]

On April 3 2016, Saudi King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud [who had won the above award himself] presented India’s PM Narendra Modi with the Arab nation’s highest civilian award.

Zakir Naik’s perfidy was publicly known a decade ago.

Naik was banned from entering the UK by the then Home Secretary Theresa May [currently British PM] in 2010.

“Numerous comments made by Dr Naik are evidence to me of his unacceptable behaviour,” May was quoted as saying.

The admirers of 1965-born qualified medical doctor Zakir Abdul Karim Naik have spread mayhem on a global scale since 2006.

They include Najibullah Zazi, the Afghan-American arrested for planning suicide attacks on the New York subway, Rahil Sheikh [1], accused of involvement in a series of train bombings in Mumbai in 2006 and Kafeel Ahmed, the Bangalore born man killed during a failed suicide attack on Glasgow airport in 2007.

Indian Journalist Shoaib Daniyal disagreed with Naik’s belief that “Americans swap wives at will because they eat pigs which also swap their wives”. He also pointed out that Naik’s statement that Islam allows a man to marry multiple women because “in the USA, there are more women than men”, was inconsistent with US demographic statistics.

Torkel Brekke, a professor of religious history in Norway, calls Naik a very controversial figure.

Naik’s rhetorical attack on other religions and other varieties of Islam are strongly disliked by many members of the Indian Ulema for ignoring their authority.

Indian journalists had issued warnings about Naik.

“It would be useful to consider the case of Zakir Naik, perhaps the most influential Salafi ideologue in India,” observed Praveen Swami, a senior Indian journalist in his seminal work part of a book published in 2011.Operative excerpts from its blurb:

Sections of Bollywood backed Naik.

Film producer Mahesh Bhatt supported Naik in 2010 saying the ban constituted an attack on freedom of speech.

Naik’s application for judicial review of the ban was dismissed on 5 November 2010.

The same year, Naik was forbidden to enter Canada after Tarek Fatah, founder of the Muslim Canadian Congress, warned MPs of Naik’s views.

The bans on the entry have not been lifted.

India’s mainstream media had begun their harangue in 2016.

Operative excerpts from a report in The Times of India dated July 9 2016:

Mumbai-based preacher Dr Zakir Naik, who is under the scanner after two of the Dhaka terrorists claimed he was an inspiration, seemed to have been followed by four youths from Kalyan, a Mumbai suburb. They had run away and joined the Islamic State.

Areeb Majeed, arrested for IS activities in Kashmir, is believed to have told interrogators of the National Investigation Agency that he was ‘inspired’ after hearing the lectures of Naik.

Copies of Naik’s lectures were also found in a library located in Bihar, a north Indian cow-belt state. Enquiries had revealed the facility was frequented by Indian Mujahedeen members.

One of those who regularly accessed Naik’s works is Yasin Bhatkal – now in custody in India.

Like the Dhaka terrorists, Mumbai youths hailing from well-to-do respected families are drawn towards fundamentalism-fuelled-violence caused by the speeches of Naik. Besides Areeb, the other Islamic State joiners in the knowledge of police are engineering students Fahad Shaikh and Amaan Tandel.

According to police sources, suitably brain-washed initially by Naik’s hate-speeches, Areeb Majeed’s hatred was honed by a woman, Tahirah Bhatt, who also helped him join the banned group. In turn, Majeed recruited Shaikh, Tandel and others. They fought in Iraq. Currently, Majeed is in jail. Shaikh had contacted his family a few months ago. The whereabouts of Tandel aren’t known.

“The named youths were provoked to commit anti-national activities citing the destruction of Babri Mosque and Gujarat riots. Primary sources of ‘inspiration’ were hard-copies of Naik’s works. Naik’s rallies used to witness huge footfall in Bihar,” the official added.

Families of 15 young men and women from Kerala state’s northern districts suspect their offspring may have joined the Islamic State, according to top sources in India’s southern-most state.

It is not exactly known whether Zakir Naik’s speeches had impelled the youths to take such a step. However, a Press Trust of India report published by the website catchnews.com revealed alarming aspects of this unlikely tale. Operative excerpts:

State Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has directed the police to launch a probe into the matter urgently, said Member of Parliament P Karunakaran. He represents the north Kerala constituency of Kasargod – located on the state’s borders that touch Karnataka.

“Family members of these youths were aghast reading Whatsapp messages. ‘We are not coming back. Here there is Divine Rule. You also should join us,’ one message said. ‘We have joined IS to fight US for attacking Muslims,’ said another. These youths were visiting the Middle-East for religious studies. We brought it to the notice of CM P Vijayan,” said Karunakaran. He had been apprised of the issue by a local body leader VPP Mustafa and a legislator M Rajagopalan.

This group comprises men, women, couple and even a child travelling along with parents.

The abhorrence of family members back home is apparent from the statement issued by Hakim, a male parent of one of the ‘missing’ youths.

“If my son returns as a good man, I will welcome him. If not, I do not want to see even his dead body,” Hakim was quoted as saying.

According to Rajagopalan, all those missing were below the age of 30 and highly qualified. This motley ‘missing’ crowd includes a medical doctor couple and an engineering graduate, his wife and a 2-year-old child. Before dropping out of sight, different persons in this group had presented varying tales for leaving Kerala. The reasons included visiting families far away job search.

The youths’ approach to life had undergone a sudden change during the last 2 years after accessing inflammatory Islamic literature, Rajagopalan added.

Surely Zakir Naik is an influential man.

Naik was ranked 89 on The Indian Express’s list of the “100 Most Powerful Indians in 2010”.

Naik was ranked 82 in the 2009 edition.

BBC’s Sanjiv Buttoo says he is acknowledged as an authority on Islam. However, he warns that Naik is known for making negative remarks about other religions.

US based senior journalist Sadanand Dhume observes that Naik has a ‘carefully crafted image of moderation’. This has been achieved through a gentle demeanour, dress sense of wearing of a suit and tie and his quoting of scriptures of other religions.

Naik was also listed in the book The 500 Most Influential Muslims under honourable mention from 2009 through 2014.

Seven serial blasts had ripped through Mumbai’s suburban railway network at peak hour on July 11, 2006, leaving at least 147 dead. The death toll had risen to 189 later. The incidents’ mastermind was Rahil Sheikh, currently in prison.

Sheikh is a trained as a computer engineer.

Sheikh’s brothers – Faisal and Muzammil were charged in the 2006 bombings.

Sheikh’s telephone records had indicated that he had been receiving calls from Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Nepal and Bangladesh.

Also, it has been suggested that he was acting as the point man to collect funds and pass it on to the LeT which is said to have carried out the attacks.

Sheikh is said to have travelled to Pakistan.

Jaitley hoists Modi on own petard?

Is Finance Minister Arun Jaitley hoisting Prime Minister Narendra Damodardas Modi on the latter’s own anti-tax-evasion petard?

So it would seem – if one takes a close look at the aftermath of the withdrawal of the Rs.500 and Rs.1000 high denomination currency notes – that seems to have netted – so far a little below Rs.10 lakh crores [US$149 billion].

The Central Board of Direct Taxes – under the direct purview of FM Jaitley – is threatening citizens day in and day out. Every tax return of every individual “suspected of depositing unusual amounts into bank accounts after the current central government’s measure to curb black money will be scrutinised,” is the refrain.

Simply put, AJ is alienating Modi from the bulk of India’s population – on the very issue that is supposed to mark the singular victory of the PM – by merely getting those under him to drill dread into the hearts of Bharat’s middleclass – the mainstay of Modi’s constituency.

The sudden withdrawal of Rs.500 and Rs.1000 currency notes was simple but effective move initiated to nullify the huge cache of cash of over Rs.20 lakh crores worth fake currency notes that were printed and pushed into India by the inimical nation next door – Pakistan. There was no other move possible to cleanse the system.

The corrupt military Rasputins in Islamabad are attempting to force Modi into admitting that Pakistan has succeeded in corrupting the entire financial system of India. Modi is yet to bit the bait.

Former Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India – an honourable banker – Dr KC Chakrabarty – perhaps is not privy to this information and hence told a television channel – “The currency notes aren’t bad, the people who handle them are.”

That is exactly where good men like him are wrong.

The notes are equally bad and are in the hands of the worse men/women and being put to use for the worst possible purpose – the destruction of India that is Bharat.

To achieve that sinister purpose, the laws and the income-tax system left behind by the colonial British are being bandied about. The system of taxing native Indians was primarily designed to keep nationalistic sentiments and growth potential ideas under check to prevent growth of ‘independence ideas.’

The principle was to threaten people with impossible laws, force the subjected subjects to break them, identify the strongest challengers of the alien might and then crush them into nothingness. The others, the plan was, would simply be either cowed down or would continue to lick the boots of foreign powers long after they eventually were to be forced to depart. The exploitation of India – the jewel in the crown [remember the Kohinoor, continuing to adorn the Queen’s crown, anyone?] would incessantly be in grateful servitude of powers sitting in comfort behind the borders of India.

For instance, the British banned manufacture of salt – that had led to the Dandi March led by Gandhiji whose climax was the clarion call of complete independence from the British.

The British could never hope to manufacture or control the manufacture of the salt required by undivided India. Yet, the law was passed merely to identify those who nurtured emotions to shake off the foreign-yoke.

It destroyed the financial security of persons like Sardar Vedaratnam Pillai – one of the architects of the Salt Protest in central-east Tamil Nadu in the southern part of the Indian peninsula.

Another such trick was the income tax.

There were more white tax evaders during the freedom struggle. However, native Indians always felt the rough end of the stick.

The idea was to encourage the growth of a tribe of habitual native tax evaders who would corrupt the political system whenever India became free and then blame the very corrupt system to say – India never deserved to be free.

The Mundra Scandal is one such manifestation of this malady – that exposed the nexus between the then ‘high priest of Indian democracy – Jawaharlal Nehru’ and shady Indian businessmen. The widow of his grandson – Rajiv Gandhi – – Sonia nee Edvige Albina Antonia Maino – has a worse and reprehensible record.

The Congress misrule of India continued the dirtiest trick left behind by the British to create a tribe of comprador business community that would import more and export less. Its name is the licence-raj the darkest period of Indian economy from 1947 to 1990. It spawned a tribe of businessmen who cut as many corners as possible – as the system provided methods to evade tax under the alibi of tax-avoidance.

The issue today is that the second and third generation of this very tribe controls the bulk of the nation’s wealth. Alienating them would only destroy India and/or bring back the rule of the Congress Party – and both mean the same thing.

The tax-penalty threat being issued by the Indian Finance Ministry is nothing but a ruse to render Modi and his money measures unpopular. Its tertiary tentacles are the artificial shortages of new currency notes in the ATM machines and the banks. To compound it, the stupid measure of indelible ink on those who come to exchange older notes has been introduced. It kills two birds with a single stone. Firstly, it scares virtually everyone going to banks to exchange old notes. Secondly, the system of indelible ink marks done during elections is quietly besmirched.

Obviously, the Reserve Bank of India does not have the capacity to replenish the supplies of the currency notes sucked out of the system by declaring the Rs.500 and Rs.1000 currency notes ‘non-legal-tender’ within a few weeks.

Virtually 80% of India’s cash economy has come to a near standstill. The likes of Shaktikanta Das – once the blue-eyed-boy of the corrupt Maran siblings are successfully compounding the lacunae in Modi’s money cleansing move.

The next blow would be in the form of the virtually unworkable GST – the Goods and Services Tax – being hailed by the likes of AJ and his gang of comprador business community – for obvious reasons – as inbuilt loopholes would – yet again – spoil Modi’s name in the short term and in the long term would be shot down by the courts as it violates the very tenet of India’s Union and Concurrent lists – enshrined in the Constitution. The GST directly interferes with the revenue of have-less states – and when forced upon the populace would divide India on the issue of taxation – another sinister and sick measure of sowing dissent in modern day India.

In a nutshell, Modi needs to understand the evil designs of his number 2 [the term number 2 in Hindi denotes illegal and also black money] in his cabinet.

The simple fact of life is that Pakistan pumped over Rs.20 lakh crores of fake currency into India and the PM stymied its use by promulgation of a single law. But, under the ruse of its exposure triggering a run on the Indian economy, the agents of Pakistan are spreading the fear psychosis of income tax to spread dissent and discomfort in the minds of Indians.

The likes of Arun Jaitley are only taking this hidden, hideous agenda forward.

Way back in 1946 and 1978, similar measures as Modi were initiatedwith a comparably lesser number of ham-handedness.

His virtual number 2 in the cabinet – Charan Singh succeeded in toppling the urine-drinking PM. Incidentally, ‘number two’ in Hindi slang means a shady business and/or illegally acquired wealth.

Will the currently popular PM would be dragged down the same drain as another man called Morarji Desai was in the late 70’s is a question that can only be answered in the months to come.

Diplomatic sucker punch to break Pakistan’s glass-jaw

In Uri, J&K state, 17 braves of the Indian army were butchered by Pakistan trained terrorists.

India’s officialdom is twiddling its thumbs and singing rhyming diddles, predictably uttering ‘appropriate action at the appropriate time’.

It is high time that India moved the United Nations for declaring Pakistan as a rogue state and to initiate proceedings for imposing sanctions against the terrorist regime in Islamabad.

Southern Features News Service [SFNS] is doing its national duty by providing the draft of the letter to be sent to the UN by Prime Minister Narendra Damodardas Modi.

The editorial board of SFNS is aware that this easily viable idea may be ignored or hidden from PM Modi. After all, he has many enemies within his own cabinet.

His Excellency Mr. Ban Ki Moon

Secretary General, United Nations

New York

United States of America

Subject:  United Nations’ imposition of sanctions against the Republic of Pakistan – declaring it a rogue terrorism sponsoring state

On September 18 2016, terrorists trained in Pakistan launched an attack on Indian soldiers within officially held sovereign Indian Territory and killed 17 army personnel.

The physical evidence for the same – recorded as per international standards to gather evidence from the scene of a crime – is being sent for your perusal by separate diplomatic courier.

The sovereign nation – India that is Bharat seeks the imposition of sanctions against Pakistan – both military and financial.

Further, India that is Bharat seeks the following steps to be initiated immediately:

Ban on all financial transactions with Pakistan of all UN member nations.

Economic and military blockade against Pakistan to stop the spread of global terrorism.

UN intervention to liberate the heroic people of Baluchistan – who are being crushed under the scarlet buckled shoes of the Pakistani armed forces.

UN intervention to liberate the heroic people of the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir – whose illegal occupation by Pakistan has been declared improper by the UN since 2010.

Sanctions’ formulations, we in India comprehend, are divided into three categories.

The First Category involves sanctions that are designed to force cooperation with international Law.

Citation: Chesterman, S., & Pouligny, B. (2003). Are Sanctions Meant to Work? The Politics of Creating and Implementing Sanctions through the United Nations Global Governance, 9(4), 503-518.

Citation: Sanctions placed on Iraq as per Resolutions 661, 665 and 670 after the initial invasion of neighbouring Kuwait to prevent armed conflict.

That being a precedent, Pakistan’s continued illegal occupation of one-third of the state of Jammu & Kashmir that always belonged to India is ample cause for imposition of sanctions.

The Second Category of sanctions pertains to the explicit purpose to contain a threat to peace within an internationally recognised geographical boundary.

Citation: Pakistan backed sections of Al Qaeda have links with terrorists in Chechnya. Source: USA Today Relevant excerpts: According to Evan Kohlmann, senior partner of Flashpoint Global Partners, a New York-based international security consulting firm, Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan and one of its splinter groups, the Islamic Jihad Union, both have recruited Chechen, Turks and other non-Arab Muslims to fight with them against U.S. forces in Afghanistan. Both of these groups are based in the Waziristan tribal area of Pakistan, “and these groups can be just as radical as anything al-Qaeda puts out,” Kohlmann was quoted as saying. Several links have been identified between Chechen guerrillas and al-Qaeda, according to an analysis by the Council on Foreign Relations. President Vladimir Putin has often stressed that al-Qaeda is linked with Chechen fighters. According to the Council on Foreign Relations analysis, a Chechen warlord is said to have met with Osama bin Laden while both were fighting against the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan from 1979-89.

The Third Category involves the United Nations Security Councils condemnation of actions of a specific action or policy of a member/non-member nation.

Relevant excerpts from the report cited above:

French police have detained three men in connection with an investigation into the deadly stabbing of a French police officer and his companion at their home in a suburb of Paris on Monday evening in an attack claimed by the Islamic State group.

A man who claimed allegiance to the Islamic State (IS) group stabbed French police commander Jean-Baptiste Salvaing, 42, and his 35-year-old companion, Jessica Schneider, to death before he was killed in a dramatic police operation. The attacker also took the couple’s 3-year-old son hostage, who was rescued by police unharmed, but in a state of shock.

French President François Hollande said the murders in the western Paris suburb of Magnanville western suburb of Paris were “unquestionably a terrorist act”.

Paris Prosecutor François Molins identified the suspect as 25-year-old Larossi Abballa, who had been sentenced in 2013 for links to a jihadist network that sent recruits to Pakistan

[Emphasis added]

As can be discerned from the paragraphs above and those below, Pakistan has consistently acted against the interests of all the permanent members of the UN Security Council – viz. US of A, UK, Russia, China and France, besides, India and many other peace-loving nations of the globe.

The paragraphs below amply demonstrate that Pakistan deserves the promulgation of UN sanctions for the enforcement of International Law, safeguarding of a geographical region within a sovereign nation within its borders from illegal enemy action through terrorism and condemnation of action and/or policy of a member nation.

Pakistan’s former general has admitted that his nation supports terrorist acts in India.

Admission by Pakistan’s former ruler of training terrorists in Pakistan to operate in India: Pakistan’s former dictator Pervez Musharraf told German periodical Der Spiegel that militant groups “were indeed formed inside Pakistan” in part, because of the international community’s “apathy” over the Kashmir dispute. Source: BBC

“It is the right of any country to promote its own interests when India is not prepared to discuss Kashmir at the United Nations and resolve the dispute in a peaceful manner,” Musharraf was quoted as saying.

Permit us to mention here that Pakistan’s claim over the sovereign Indian Territory – as recognised by the United Nations since 2010 – has now become irrevocable.

The relevant context:

In 1947, Maharaja Hari Singh, (September 1895 – 26 April 1961), the last ruling monarch of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir in India briefly attempted to remain neutral, heading an independent nation nestled between the freshly partitioned India and Pakistan.

All the access roads to the realm from what had become India had been ceded to Pakistan.

Sensing a golden chance, Pakistan’s army attacked the kingdom and occupied a third of the principality.

Left with the grim prospect of being forcibly converted to Islam, after some tough talk by India’s brains’ trust comprising Home Minister Vallabh Bhai Patel and C Rajagopalachari, Hari Singh signed on the dotted line linking his kingdom permanently to the Union of India on October 26 1947. The airlifted Indian army stopped the Pak army on its tracks. Two thirds of Kashmir remained with India and a third was under Pakistani occupation when the ceasefire was announced.

United Nations Security Council [UNSC] Resolution 47, adopted on April 21, 1948

UNSC passed the resolution under the non-binding Chapter VI of UN Charter. Later it became to be governed under Chapter VII, which is enforceable by UN.

Excerpts from the crucial terms agreed to by both the sides:

As the presence of troops of Pakistan in the territory of the State of Jammu and Kashmir constitutes a material change in the situation since it was represented by the Government of Pakistan before the Security Council, the Government of Pakistan agrees to withdraw its troops from that State.

The Government of Pakistan will use its best endeavour to secure the withdrawal from the State of Jammu and Kashmir of tribesmen and Pakistani nationals not normally resident therein [and] who have entered the State for the purpose of fighting.

[Emphasis supplied]

In March 2001, the then Secretary-General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan informed the then Pakistan ruler Pervez Musharraf that as per Chapter VII rules, UNSC was well within its powers to enforce the resolution.

Sensing the no-win situation to the above clause, in 2003, the then Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf announced that Pakistan was willing to back off from demand for UN resolutions for Kashmir!

Despite this, the state’s western and northern districts presently known as Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan continue to remain under the control of Pakistan. India terms the region Pakistan Occupied Kashmir [POK].

Pakistan claims its portion is the real Azad Kashmir. The terms of ceasefire and UN resolutions of 1948 ruled that the document signed by Hari Singh was final. Sometime in future, the document added, a plebiscite could be held if so wished by all the people of J & K – including those in the control of Pakistan – allowing Kashmiri people to decide their future. A precondition was that the army that attacked the kingdom should retreat first.

To ensure fairness, India under Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru introduced Article 370 to retain the demographic proportion of the state till the final resolution of the dispute. In spite of the fact that the continuance of Article 370 is detrimental to the Hindu majority of India, owing to the democratic traditions, the measure continues.

On the Pakistani side, most of the Kashmiris have been chased away – and the area is being systematically colonised!

Pakistan keeps talking of “liberating” J & K.

The differences between India administered Kashmir and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir:

  • J & K’s annual GDP is roughly US$ 30 billion. By that yardstick, the piece of land in Pakistani control ought to be US$ 10 billion. Latest figures say it is yet to cross US$ 1 billion!
  • On the Indian side, there are 4 airports in the state of J & K. On the Pakistani side, there are almost none. [see below]
  • Highways and railway lines have almost touched the borders in India. Pakistani portion of J & K is yet to have a decent dual carriageway.
  • Elections are regularly held in J & K in what ought to be termed the real free Kashmir. In Pakistan’s piece, peace is a distant dream. The so-called premier of Azad Kashmir has to go on hunger strikes for basic amenities!

After waiting for 7 years, in November 2010, UNSC ruled that J & K is no longer a disputed territory as per the UN list. The free world’s monitoring agencies have gone on record saying that the state of J & K has a democratically elected, functioning government. On the contrary, people in the Pakistan held area are subjected to tortuous intimidation.

Kindly allow us to quote a few paragraphs from your rules for this step to be taken by your august body of which India that is Bharat is a member.

“It is extremely important that Pakistan take action to prevent this kind of safe haven from taking place, and from allowing terrorists to use their country as a safety net in order to conduct their attacks on our forces,” Panetta was quoted as saying.

“We have made very clear that it is difficult to achieve a secure Afghanistan as long as there is a safe haven for terrorists in Pakistan from which they can conduct attacks on our forces,” Panetta added.

“It is unacceptable for Afghanistan and for our troops that the Taliban and al-Qaeda find safe haven in the border regions of Pakistan. We know the price that the Pakistani people are paying for terrorism. But it is unacceptable for the world that terrorist acts should be masterminded and carried out by terrorist groups in Pakistan,” Sarkozy was quoted as saying.

The report cited a despatch by the US Ambassador done earlier.

“There is no chance that Pakistan will view enhanced assistance levels in any field as sufficient compensation for abandoning support to these groups, which it sees as an important part of its national security apparatus against India. The only way to achieve a cessation of such support is to change the Pakistan government’s own perception of its security requirements,” Anne Patterson, US Ambassador to Pakistan was quoted as saying as cited in Wikileaks.

Source: Tolo News Agency

Nabil provided Afghan President Ashraf Ghani with intelligence documents that pointed to Pakistan’s ISI systematically supports the terrorist groups.

July 2014 (Pakistani military intelligence)

Document presented to Ghani revealed that the attack on Kabul Airport was carried out during President Hamid Karzai’s government with ISI aid. On July 2014, an official letter from central office of ISI in Islamabad was sent to MI-422 office in Swaba, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in which it directed the office to thank that the people that succeeded in plotting the attack on Kabul Airport (now Hamid Karzai International Airport) and gave 2.5 million Pakistani rupees to for every one of the following: Haji Khalil Haqqani, Haji Hakim Woluswal, Qari Zahir Shah and Mawlawi Hakim. Moreover, the office was directed to donate 1.5 million Pakistani rupees to the families of those that were involved in the attack. A day before the issuance of the letter, insurgents attacked Kabul International Airport from under a construction building.

Evidence on official ISI stationery between March and April 2015

The attack on Ministry of Borders and Tribal Affairs in Kabul was to be done by the Haqqani network and a demand was made to obtain the report of compliance before July 23 2015. The ISI 945 office in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in an official note dated April 6, 2015 to the central office in Islamabad said the following: Officials of 945 office in a meeting with Toryalai, the head of the network and his co-fighters on April 5, 2015, were tasked to kidnap and kill Afghanistan’s Shia leaders in Herat, Kabul and Farah. In addition, they gave 2 million Pakistani rupees to the participant in that meeting.

Office 945 was asked to prepare the required weapons and other equipment by Toryalai through the COD Akora Khattak and hand them over by the mentioned date. In the note it was mentioned that 23 people from Toryalai group’s 23 persons were given military training.

The central office of ISI located in Quetta in a tentative note to central office of IW in Islamabad and 945-office in Rawalpindi, presented the result of visit by a number of officers to the office with Quetta Shura of Taliban as follows:

March 2015: From ISI site office to central office in Islamabad and Rawalpindi: “The members of Taliban’s Quetta Shura held a meeting about the peace process with Afghan government in which key commanders of the Shura attended. They talked on mutual interests and policies as already given to them. In addition, the relevant officials gave needed directions to members of the council about the process. It is pertinent to mention that the note has mentioned that the advisory board (945, CID) forwarded all those terms and preconditions as directed from GHQ. After that the Shura’s decision will be mutual then will be forwarded on a priority basis.”

“Based on the orders of the central ISI office, the office directed its agents to transfer Atta Mohammad and Hafiz Loqman, two commanders of Haqqani network under leadership of Maulavi Zar Mohammad to Pakistani military base in Datta Khail area of Miran Shah in North Waziristan in fake police uniforms,” a despatch from ISI office 945 on its official stationery read. Pakistani army colonel Ghulam Abbas recorded that “The central ISI office directed units 945 and 935 to transfer all Haqqani network militants to Miran Shah, Topchi and Mir Ali under the cover of the army.” Another official communication revealed that a meeting was held between Hafiz Gul Bahadur of Hafiz Gul Bahadur Group with the commander of Afghan Taliban Maulavi Hamdullah. The main purpose of the meeting was to provide rented houses to leaders of Afghan Taliban in Hayat Abad and Tahkal of Peshawar who have been deployed from remote regions of Miran Shah. In addition, armoured vehicles and guards were to be provided to secure their lives and activities.”

Nabil added that tens of thousands of Madrasas in Pakistan were [and are] involved in brain-washing, terrorism and extremism using funds from the US.

Airports in J & K

The Airports Authority of India had published data and statistics of the airport between April 2013 and March 2014. According to this data, Jammu airport is ranked the 27th busiest airport in India, with total passenger traffic of 845,555. It is served by 7 airlines.

Kargil Airport is a military airfield in Kargil district 6 km away from Kargil and 210 km from Srinagar. It is one of the 4 airports in the State of Jammu and Kashmir. It was built by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) at a cost of 350 million Rupees, initially for civilian use but was transferred to the Indian Air Force (IAF) in 2003 after it was damaged in the Kargil War in 1999. The civil enclave at the airfield is managed by the State Government.

Kushok Bakula Rinpoche Airport is located in LehJammu and Kashmir. At 3,256 m (10,682 ft) above mean sea level, it is one of the commercial terminals located at a very high altitude. The airport is named after 19th Kushok Bakula Rinpoche, an Indian statesman and monk.

In February 2016, Indian Air Force handed the airport to Airport Authority of India. AAI will expand it for civilian purposes. It is serviced by 3 airlines.

Poonch Airport (also known as Poonch Airstrip) is an airport located in PoonchIndia.

Though no scheduled flights operate from Poonch, in 2005, then Chief Minister of Jammu and KashmirGhulam Nabi Azad made a suggestion to Air Deccan that they start flying small aircraft to Poonch. The then Chairman of Air DeccanCaptain Gopinath said that Air Deccan would consider the request.

Srinagar International Airport  is named after Sheikh ul Alam, a 15th-century Kashmiri mystic Sheikh Noor-ud-din Wali. It is an international terminal, connected to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia beyond the borders of India. Domestically it is linked to 11 cities and serves 6 airlines.

Airports in POK:

Because of its short runway located at the edge of a slope, even Boeing 737s and similar-sized jet aircraft cannot operate at Gilgit Airport. Currently Pakistan International Airlines operates ATR 42 aircraft on the Gilgit-Islamabad route.

A new terminal was constructed in 2014 which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

This airport, when planned, had been allocated land twice as large as at present. But, due to excessive water leakage from the ground, the land was used to create a public park at the vicinity of this airport. The leakage was caused due to excessive bombings on this area during war period. Muzaffarabad:

There are no scheduled flights to this airport.

It is not being used by any passenger airline.

Skardu has a domestic civil airport and military airbase connected to Islamabad. It also serves as a Forward Operating Base of the Pakistan Air Force.

Devils merrily dance under CBI’s southern HQ’s noses

Are officials in the southern regional headquarters of the Central Bureau of Investigation [CBI] in cahoots with criminals whose acts have left ‘We the People of India that is Bharat’ poorer by at least Rs.100 lakh crores?

The southern regional office of the CBI is smugly squatting on vital cases that include some of the biggest scandals, multiple murders, bank frauds and high treason! Worse, the inaction and inertia are an indirect applause to criminality of the worst order.

Crony-capitalism backed by crony-bureaucracy and political cronies are cocking a snook at the highest levels of the nation’s legal system – the Supreme Court – rendering it into some sort of atrophied crane!

October 1 2016 will witness yet another telecom spectrum sham-scam auction of telecom. It could potentially ensure that the Rs.50 lakh crore robbery of the exchequer through ‘telephony’ remains buried. The scandal involves a massive cover-up of a so-called cold-blooded murder of one Sadiq Batcha, the aide of former Union Telecom Minister A Raja.

In May 2016, a few days before the voting in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections that saw current Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s return to power, very briefly, details of a shamefully covered up political murder was exhumed. It was soon buried again.

Prabhakaran, a 25-year-old man had confessed to reporters in Tamil Nadu that he had murdered the aide of former Union Telecom Minister A Raja along with former top cop Jaffer Sait and another person. The person has since dropped out of sight. Washed up politician Vaiko pretended to raise the issue and then clammed up completely.

The exposes of the scandal had begun as early as 2012 and continue in these columns.

It was the Rs.50 lakh crore 2G Spectrum scandal that had caused the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam led by Karunanidhi to lose power in 2011. The so-called suicide of the main accused A Raja’s aide Sadiq Batcha had been brushed under the carpet by half a dozen bent cops at the level of Directors General of Police.

In August 2014, the Supreme Court ordered the reopening of an 8-year-old triple murder case by the CBI. The resultant denouement could potentially blow the lid off the Rs.24 lakh crore Tamil Nadu Granite scandals.   Nothing, however, has happened!

Sources within the government pointed to the September 2016 suspensions of senior bureaucrats – with former Chief Secretary Gnanadesikan leading the way. Alongside, Commissioner of Geology and Mining Atul Anand, three officials belonging to the Geology and Mines department and three executive engineers in the pollution control department too were suspended.

The suspensions were made without the government announcing any kind of enquiry against the officers, that too in spite of one of them having been the Chief Secretary of the state for one and half years. The orders were never made public or released to the media, said a well-known website.

Operative excerpts from the report cited 2 paragraphs above:

The Supreme Court upheld the verdict of the Madras high court for a CBI inquiry into the murder of former Tamil Nadu Minerals Corporation (TAMIN) chairman S Saravanan, his wife and their maid in November 2008.

On October 4, 2013, the Madras High Court set aside the trial court order convicting four people for the triple murder and ordered their release on conditional bail. Earlier, a fast-track court had sentenced four accused in the case to life imprisonment.

A two-member bench, comprising Justice J Chelameswar and Justice A K Sikri confirmed the Madras HC’s order for reinvestigation by the CBI.

The judges asked the investigation agency to probe public witness 40 (then assistant commissioner of police, Ashok Nagar, V Sethu) and public witness 41 (then assistant commissioner of police, Ashok Nagar) S Paranthaman. The officers had admitted on record that 4 bank lockers had been opened without obtaining permission from the magistrate, removed the stashed cash and jewellery, the Apex Court’s Division Bench observed.

TAMIN former managing director S Saravanan, 74, his wife Kasthuri, 71 and maid Anbarasi, 18, were found murdered in their house on 18th Avenue, Ashok Nagar on November 19, 2008.

The murders sent shock waves across the city, and police remained clueless till April 13, 2010, when they arrested cab drivers Mohammed Yasin, 24, S Udhaya Kumar, 23, and N Mohandoss, 43, and Mohandoss’ wife M Sathyabama, 34. On October 22, 2010, fast-track court judge G Savithri found all of them guilty of murder and sentenced them to life imprisonment. The prime accused, taxi driver Sathish Kumar, 24, committed suicide a few days before the others were nabbed.

The bench said: “We are of the view that the judgment of conviction and the sentence passed by the trial court have to be set aside and the matter has to be remitted for reinvestigation, to the joint director of the CBI, Chennai.” The judges also asked the CBI to investigate the matter afresh by questioning people other than those already examined.

The Rs.24 lakhs worth granite scandal is being passed off as one worth Rs.1.10 lakh crores. In June 2016, the Madras High Court saw the following as reported in The New Indian Express: Excerpts:

Advocate General A L Somayaji informed the First Bench of the Madras High Court that the State government will furnish a ‘composite picture’ of the granite scam, shortly.

The matter came up before the bench comprising Chief Justice SK Kaul and Justice R Mahadevan. The government has sought reports and inputs from various departments vis-à-vis the scam report compiled by Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Sagayam, Somayaji told the court. Time was granted till July 28.

The bench observed that it would take a final decision on the Rs.1.11 lakh crore scandals once the government furnishes the ‘composite picture’.

One of the options before the court is to direct the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take over the investigation as prayed for by the Public Interest Litigation filed by ‘Traffic’ Ramaswamy.

Dhandapani, a lawyer representing the centre’s Enforcement Directorate (ED) told the court that it too was looking into the matter and would file its ‘status report’.

The bench asked the Central Bureau of Investigation to be represented by its counsel by the next hearing date.

It passed unnoticed!

[Emphasis added]

Meanwhile, Paranthaman was recommended to receive the President’s Medal!

The CBI is merrily twiddling its thumbs about this!

Details of the scandal in Granite exports are available with the state police and the CBI, handed over personally by this scribe some 3 years ago.

A person claiming to represent IAS officer Sagayam approached this scribe for details of a court case – with special emphasis on the triple murder, secret Swiss bank accounts and the list of accused in the Saravanan case.

My blog published way back in 2013 – indicated that Saravanan was the origin of the massive granite scam. Its manifestation was such that the list of culprits in the ongoing but somewhat stymied High Court monitored probe could include could include former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and at least 2 former DGPs!

The question to be asked is: Do the suspensions of several top bureaucrats have any link with the massive scandals in the granite mining and the notorious thorium-rich-sand illegal export scandal? One of the main suspects in the is latter scam is Vaikundarajan, who once had held the shares of Jaya TV – the official electronic medium of the ruling All India Anna DMK! He now has his own television channel – virtually – but silently telling one and all – touch me and I will use the media in my control against all wrongdoers who once were in cahoots with me! Vaikundarajan’s stranglehold over Tamil Nadu’s southern edges is such that a judge of the Madras High Court who heard cases pertaining to the control of TN Mercantile Bank – opted for a transfer. In that scandal is another person with several shades of grey – Sivasankaran – of Aircel-Maxis-Sun-TV nexus notoriety!

It is a grisly tale that has links all over the place – snaking into the living rooms of top bureaucrats and politicians in Tamil Nadu – and that includes the top brass of the brown-uniformed fraternity!

The head honchos of top nationalised banking institutions like Indian Bank[1], Corporation Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, Vijaya Bank, Canara Bank[2] and Andhra Bank – all of whom ought to be seriously questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation are being left untouched.

On top is current Central Vigilance Commission’s decision maker number 3 – India’s greatest criminal banker – TM Bhasin who had headed Indian Bank.

Bhasin is occupying his post with the brazenness of a hardened criminal.

Bhasin took charge as the VC on June 11 2015.

The earlier CVC had recommended that Regular Departmental Action should be initiated against Bhasin.

The Supreme Court is seized of the matter against Bhasin since July 2015.

Excerpts from averments in public interest litigation [PIL] matter being heard in the Apex Court against Bhasin:

Bhasin was indicted in a detailed inquiry by the Central Vigilance Commission in 2013 for forging and tampering with appraisal report of Malay Mukherjee – a former General Manager of Indian Bank. Mukherjee currently heads IFCI.

Despite this, Bhasin managed to get elected as the Chairman of Indian Banks’ Association in 2014!

Former Union Minister and currently a senior member of the ruling party Dr Subramanian Swamy had written a strongly worded letter to the Prime Minister on 11.06.2015 stating that charge against Respondent No. 3 (Bhasin) is “very serious” and the recommendation of the selection committee to appoint Respondent No. 3 as VC must be withdrawn. He said “finding of moral turpitude by CVC of Bhasin makes him unfit to keep the position of Vigilance Commissioner.

The Central Vigilance Commission recommended action against current CMD of Indian Bank – TM Bhasin as early as August 2013 asking the Union Finance Ministry to comply.

Bhasin is being relentlessly exposed since 2011 from the time when he held the position of Chairman and Managing Director, Indian Bank. Besides the other offences mentioned above, Bhasin had allegedly collaborated with the nation’s enemy Dawood Ibrahim to ruin Bank of Baroda and thus destroy the Indian financial system.

Bhasin’s target was reputed banker SS Mundra, currently a deputy governor in the Reserve Bank of India [RBI]. Bhasin wanted the post and reportedly managed to keep Mundra waiting for several months. Mundra’s elevation to RBI became possible after Dr Kamalesh Chandra Chakrabarty – another ex-Indian Bank head quit his RBI post 3 months ahead of schedule. Chakrabarty has an impeccable record as a banker. He had spent most of his years in Bank of Baroda. Chakrabarty’s opinion about Bhasin can be summed up in just two words “sheer contempt”. The contempt stemmed from one act- the so-called inauguration of Indian Bank HQ – adjacent to the ruling AIADMK’s HQ in Chennai. Bhasin had himself participated in its earlier “inaugurations” twice! Worse, he managed to invite Pranab Mukherjee [then yet to be elevated to the nation’s highest office] to do the honours. It was a ruse to allegedly splurge a sum in excess of Rs.3 crores – sans any justification – for a function that lasted less than an hour! The worst side of it is that Bhasin reportedly went around claiming to have bank-rolled Mukherjee’s elevation to the office of President! And there were, wags in Chennai add, enough fools to believe this tripe!

The evidence against Bhasin has been piling since 2011!

Bhasin’s protectors-in-chief are said to be Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and ex-RBI boss Raghuram Rajan.

The CVC and one of its mainstays Bhasin are systematically targeting banks and bankers who, it is believed, are on his hit-list. One of them is – Bank of Baroda!

That the functioning of Bank of Baroda has gone to dogs since the departure of Mundra is a minor footnote to this shameful saga.

According to official RBI communiqués, the total write-offs in the 133 scheduled banks in India works out to Rs. 1,14,000 crores worth ‘bad loans’ during the last 3 financial years (2012-13 to 2014-15). The write-offs exceed the previous nine years’ dubiously written off debts.

Between 65-70 percent of the total bad loan stock of Rs 4,43,691 crores in the banking industry has lined corrupt and criminal pockets in the corporate sector.

One of them is of course – the great Vijay Mallya. In March this year – these columns had carried the prophesy – the ‘king of good times’ who continues to remain untouched. That continues to be the status quo now!

To add insult to injury, during the current fiscal, the union finance ministry  pumped Rs 20,000 crores to bail out banks facing a liquidity crunch. It simply implies that taxpayers’ money is used to bail out banks looted by crony capitalists.

The Central Bureau of Investigation is yet to touch former Union Home Minister and ex-Finance Minister P Chidambaram.

Among other things, Chidambaram has lied to parliament on vital aspects of the brutal murder of former PM Rajiv Gandhi.

The residence and offices of both Chidambaram and his son Karti – the hubs from where their global business empires are reportedly controlled, are located within 900 metres of CBI’s Chennai regional headquarters. Central agencies are dragging their feet over serious cases of fraud involving Karti.

Not far from the same offices is the location of Apollo Hospitals – an institution linked to dubiousness-personified-holy-man – Chandraswami and to the telecom scandal! Karti’s wife Srinidhi is a Vice President in that institution.

The CBI, however, has a different set of rules applying to those who expose serious wrongdoing to establish the rule of law.

One such case is that of an ex-cop M Moosa.

HR Hussain, an office-bearer of the Wood Products Exporters Association averred that the CBI stabbed Moosa in the back – by allowing diabolically corrupt forest department officials located in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

“Two former officials of the forest department in Tamil Nadu – one P Kannan and another Rajalingaraja have rendered Moosa’s life a misery with the active connivance of CBI sleuths and United India Insurance company officials,” Hussain said.

Moosa exposed the corrupt ways of Kannan and Rajalingaraja. The duo succeeded in prosecuting Moosa in false cases. Every time courts acquitted Moosa, the duo filed something new somewhere else. Moosa lost a few crores of rupees when someone stole his export consignment. United India Insurance Co Ltd [also headquartered in Chennai] has been dragging its feet for nearly 20 years – despite Moosa being proven right in repeated investigations. This is the price one has to pay when dealing with the CBI,” Hussain added.

A Chennai media-hack wag wisecracked: CBI is an acronym that stands for Corruption, Bungling and Ineptness!

It is a body of PR operators based in Chennai – run by a former employee of Indian Bank and Corporation Bank – Prime Point Srinivasan.

Those who are his buddies refer to him as a marketing guru.

Those who are suspicious of him – term the man ‘someone comparable to the one-eyed-jack who masterminded the murder of Rajiv Gandhi’.

Two of the men said to be close to this Srinivasan are – TS Raghavan and Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati.

The latter was acquitted from the notorious Shankararaman murder case – not so honourably.

The Tamil Nadu government and the one in Puducherry – where the pontiff was acquitted – chose not to appeal against a local court’s verdict.

TS Raghavan is a former banker and an accused in criminal cases. He is currently on bail.

The one in Chennai wherein Raghavan was in prison for some time – involves cheating thousands of investors who believed in tall tales mouthed by the promoters of Vishwapriya Finance.

Vishwapriya founders also face four criminal cases, including one filed by Bank of Baroda with CBI.

After the initial brouhaha, cops in TN are taking it easy in the case, despite Raghavan being linked to a liquor baron Purushottaman and rare-earths robber Vaikundarajan – accused of stealing nation’s wealth worth Rs.1 lakh crores!

There is worse.

Branches of Corporation Bank located close to CBI headquarters are said to be involved in money-laundering locally and abroad, according to informed sources. A gang of middlemen auditors and film industry “Chettiars” are the ringleaders – who use accounts with credibility to change the colours of shady money. “Petitions have been sent to the CBI’s regional offices with clinching evidence, but, they are sitting on it, doing nothing,” a top banking source said.

Operative portions from a report in The Hindu:

A branch of Canara Bank in south Mumbai remitted Rs. 340 crore, while most of the alleged forged bills were provided by Disney International, operating out of Nagpada (also in south Mumbai), according to the investigation.

Officials said that, prima facie, the names of the unscrupulous companies in whose name goods were invoiced sound bogus, and they were indulging in trade-based money laundering allegedly on behalf of unknown jewellers and diamond merchants of south Mumbai. “We suspect that a circuit of jewellers and diamond merchants have connived with bank officials to carry out this forgery, with officials allowing submission of forged bills of entry into IceGate, the e-payment gateway,” said sources in the DRI.

A.K. Das, general manager, Canara Bank, Mumbai, said the bank was not aware of any foreign exchange or foreign remittances fraud being investigated by the DRI.

“We have no reported cases in Mumbai of this nature. The bank is doing its due diligence in checking mechanisms for such incidents,” he told The Hindu.

Suveer Khanna, a partner at KPMG said: “While public sector banks are speeding up to improve their monitoring mechanisms, the private banks have an early advantage in that they are invested into improving risk management systems. While banking regulations are in place to prevent such frauds, the onus is also on the banks to take responsibility for building stronger monitoring mechanisms.”

The DRI is said to have finished its probe and is in the process of submitting a report to the Central Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement Directorate.

Sonia shoulders a secret dehydrated dislocation?

A lot of my readers are confused as to what is wrong with the health of Sonia Gandhi.

Reports said she suffered from dehydration.

Another said – it is due to a dislocated shoulder.

It could be both, it could be neither.

So, I let my imagination run riot.

Laugh your heads off – friends, foes, countrymen, country-women and those of the third gender. Everyone deserves a lot of laughter.

Readers may kindly note that the incident described below has not taken place. This is pure imagination on my part.

As far as the dehydration and dislocated shoulder of Sonia Gandhi – two health issues – are concerned, I will prefer to take the clarification offered by Dr Desai of Khan surgery fame with much more than a pinch of salt.

Sonia Gandhi had been abroad multiple times to get mystery illnesses treated.  Anyone in doubt, ask Dr Swamy.

Guesses about Sonia’s health would be hazardous for several persons’ lives – especially for someone like me. I ought to know. I am still suffering the aftermath of what her DMK flunkey regime did to me in 2010. And those crowing about press freedom from rooftops of India’s national capital are yet to lift a little finger about the issue. Well, I am past caring. I shall profusely thank anyone who puts a bullet through me as I have now realised that death is more welcome than life in this wretched world.

Nevertheless,  I would be happy if my imagination [detailed below] does come true!

Congress representative: Madam Sonia Gandhi has sent this box of sweets … which mercifully only contain sweets … to greet the Prime Minister. You can make me eat any bit from this – to test that it isn’t poisonous.

Personal Private Secretary [PPS] to PM: We are indeed touched by this gesture as the lady is in hospital. On our part, we had sent the Defence Minister Parikkar to enquire about her health. How can I be of service to you?

Congress representative: May I first make a few points to justify my request?

PPS: Go ahead.

Congress representative: We cooperated with you in the GST bill’s passage in the Rajya Sabha. Soniaji has ordered Rahul to pipe down on the anti-PM comments. We allowed the BJP to walk over us in Assam this year. We couldn’t do much for you indirectly in West Bengal, but it was our splitting the anti-Mamata vote that helped you win 3 seats – 2 more than last time. In Kerala too we did the same, helping BJP gain 16% votes by sacrificing our own. In a humble way, we helped Modiji save his face after the Delhi and Bihar debacles.

PPS: Of course, one can also see the huge humility factor in Rahul raking up the non-issue of the movie in Punjab against us, the anti-Dalit slur against the BJP by whipping up passions against the Gujarat government over the attack on Dalits. Then there were those wonderful incidents in JNU when Rahul supported separatist enemy agents. I can go on and on. All those are incidents – to be considered as apposites of humility with a capital H.

Congress representative: Your sarcastic humour quotient is touching! That was purely an act of balancing the books. The BJP raked up matters pertaining to Congress selling India down the Indus to Pakistan. Yet, after Raj Nath’s recent visit to Pakistan for the SAARC do, one of our better known leaders and the most free servant of the people and the Prophet – Ghulam Nabi Azad praised the stand of the NDA regime in the Rajya Sabha the other day. Further let us not forget that your government viciously attacked Soniaji’s son-in-law who is non-political, private citizen. We merely balanced the books.

PPS: Did you say, balanced the books? That is rich! You ought to be booked for having lost your mental balance. You had tried to rope in Mr Modi’s wife who lives a pious life after teaching school children for a lifetime. She isn’t involved in any politics. Her personal wealth is next to nothing. On the other hand, if some reports are to be believed, Vadra has merely left 60% of Delhi ‘unpurchased’. Further some 30% and 40% of best properties abutting highways have been bought out in Rajasthan and Haryana respectively by Vadra and his gang. India is facing an uphill task with Pakistan because of all the mollycoddling of the Islamabad goons done during the UPA regime! The entire Congress party defended the poor, non-political private citizen Vadra. Those aren’t books, my friend. To coin a new term – to describe these situations – I would call them blooks.

Congress representative: Ha-ha-ha! This is the greatest joke I have heard in my entire lifetime. I agree with you completely, about this and admit these were mistakes.

PPS: Are you referring to your mentioning the balancing of books and/or the act of attempting to besmirch Mr Modi’s name under false pretexts and/or the other matters that formed part of the conversation thus far?

Congress representative: To be honest … I would alter my earlier sentences and truthfully say that all these unfortunate incidents were terrible mistakes.

PPS: Can you now come to the point please? You have soaped me so much that the metaphorical lather has started emerging from this building’s doors and windows. How can I be of service to you?

Congress representative: Following her debilitating sickness after her strenuous tour in UP, Soniaji plans to undergo treatment abroad with her children, grandchildren and the son-in-law in tow to attend to her needs. Because of the delicate nature of Soniaji’s health, we request you to go easy on the probes against Vadraji on the one hand and not prevent the Congress President or her relatives from their foreign trips.

PPS: You are tripping on factual information, my friend. She is free to go abroad anyway, any day. None has issued any watchout for her passport or for that matter – anyone in the Nehru-Gandhi clan. Some amongst us have been accused of allowing scofflaws like Mallya to slip out – by jokers in your party – just like you had reportedly done in Lalit Modi’s case at the end of the last decade. Is there a corresponding part to what I would call a clear quid pro quo or are you doing all this for the good of the nation – like the Westland Deal?

Congress representative: I am authorised to state that we will give you the entire evidence to blow the careers of all those in the Congress who killed a huge number of Sikhs in 1984 sky high.

PPS: Most of them lost them have volunteered to go to prison anyway. Anyway regimes in Italy and other nations in Europe have passed on much more sensitive information to us that your silly offer.

Congress representative: We will give you all the secret Swiss Bank account numbers of all those within the Nationalist Congress Party, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, All India Anna DMK, Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Janata Dal United, Shiv Sena, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena and finally some of the little known members of the communist parties in India. The bonus will be the other personal files and details of two unsporting sport administrators – Lalit Modi, Vijay Mallya and Zakir Naik. You can use them and bring both of them back to India to face the music.

PPS: Firstly, I do not believe whether these parties’ personalities have such accounts in foreign countries at all. But, even if they do, the whole thing is immaterial. All of them have become burnt out match sticks in political terms. As for Lalit, Vijay and Zakir we weren’t born yesterday. All of us know what the trio can do jointly, severally and/or invidivually. Those in the BJP would get hurt as much as those in the Congress do. We are merely copying your tactics to buy time to fix them when the time is ripe. This offer is even sillier than the earlier one.

Congress representative: This is as far as I can go, sir. But, Soniaji has enquired to find out what you would like … to you know …

PPS: The only meaningful thing would be the complete list of all the secret account holders from India – regardless of party affiliations – with their current passwords. And on top of that list would be Soniaji. Mr Modi is not naïve to think that by merely getting the list, the money would come back to India. The money and/or their owners may never come back to India even after we expose the list you are dangling before us … that is … if you are in possession of such a list at all.

Congress representative: I will have to check on this with Soniaji and will come back.

The person leaves.

Modi’s voice from the intercom:

Do you have a perfect audio-visual recording of this conversation?

Release it in two or three days. What did the fool think he was doing?

But we may never get the list then, sir!

The list is already with that fellow Dr Swamy. If something could have been done, would that former agent of Rajiv Gandhi have not done it? Throw the so-called Congress schmuck to the wolves. And before doing that, send a copy of this recording to not only Dr Swamy, but also all the political and other parties mentioned by the chap.

What good will that do sir?

All the parties are making a beeline towards us anyway – except the commies. Many of them will give us ‘unstinted’ and ‘unconditional’ support as part of National Democratic Alliance or from outside. We found that out during the GST vote. When this audio visual presentation reaches them, there will be less disturbance in parliament and we can take care of governance matters even in the Rajya Sabha. Further, let us admit it, the black money return slogan in 2014 has proved to be a dud. Besides, if Sonia leaves and decides not to comeback, it would be good riddance.

But … taking support from some of those parties … will be politically incorrect, sir.

Don’t be naïve, young man. We got Yeddy into our fold and as a result – won a few more seats in Karnataka. Now, none will talk about his corruption. Victory in elections is the Ganges that washes off all sins of corruption.

After Modi hangs up, the PPS mutters sotto voce: No wonder the Ganges has now morphed into a dirty gutter. Its clean up is a dirtier scandal!

The Congress representative stops his black SUV alongside the banks of Jamuna – a little later, extracts a mobile phone and dials 14 digits starting with 00.

Seeing himself connected, he starts speaking:

As-Salaam-Aleikkum, Khan Saab! I have left the sweet box in the room sir. The poisonous aroma will begin spreading in some 10 minutes. The poison will begin acting immediately. Depending on persons’ body metabolism, in a few months, the residue will kill all those in that safe house.

A police officer on secondment to RAW hears this in his headset, rushes into the PPS’s room removes the box hurriedly even as another  colleague explains the situation.

Wherever that skunk is, arrest him!

Modi [from the intercom]

You do not have to.

The PPS and the RAW officer look at each other without comprehending the situation.

Meanwhile, the so-called Congress representative flings the mobile phone into the Jamuna, gets into his SUV and drives away.

Twenty seven minutes later, the PPS sees breaking news on television.

Announcer: A few minutes ago, a black SUV suddenly burst into flames as it was being driven through the trans-Jamuna area of Trilokpuri, hit a divider and came to a grinding halt. Within a minute, the car and its solitary occupant were reduced to cinders.

Modi [to RAW officer within 7 RCR]

Send a message to the man from ISI to pull a better trick next time. And mark a copy to the flunkey in Soniaji’s entourage who – we think – is passing on ISI messages to her.

The PPS calls Modi.

Sir, we may never know the id of who came sir.

It isn’t important now. And then we do not know who we are … or for that matter who Soniaji is! Did that busybody journalist fellow from the south not point to the unanswered questions about Rajiv’s murder and Chidambaram’s secrets? I am sending you the links for the sake of general knowledge. Read them and twiddle your thumbs just as I do.

Politicians’ consensus to con Indians’ senses over vital issues?

Is there an eerie link between the “vanished state” of the GST bill awaiting the nod in Rajya Sabha and the “disappearance” of an IAF AN32 aircraft over the Bay of Bengal?

Is there an “enemy action” angle that is being hidden by India’s defence establishment?

Have Indian politicians reached a consensus to con the senses of the common public over vital issues that stumble the progress of Bharat?

The monsoon session of India’s parliament got underway on July 18 2016 and is expected to go on till August 12.

‘Evergreen’ filibustering in parliament that may push the GST Bill – touted as the magic wand to ensure the progress of India Inc to another session. The worst jocular query none chooses to answer is that even if it is passed, will it make an iota of difference.

The main ones:

[a] Verbal unprintable abuse of Dalit leader Mayawati and incessant oppression of India’s most oppressed, downtrodden castes; [1]

[b] Political brouhaha created in the aftermath of the resignation of ruling BJP MP and former cricketer NS Sidhu from the upper house, the chances of his joining the Aam Aadmi Party [2] and

[c] The AN32 aircraft that ‘went missing’ over Indian waters in the Bay of Bengal [3].

India’s leading television channels and newspapers had headlined the possibility of a series of ‘consensuses’ in the ranks of the depleted opposition leading to the safe passage of the Goods & Services Tax [GST] bill pending in the upper house – the Rajya Sabha last week. Its references have “disappeared” from the headlines with sudden mysteriousness as did the AN32 IAF aircraft over the Bay of Bengal 4 days before this blog was written.

An operative excerpt of a BBC despatch explains the situation on the GST bill.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged political parties to pass the bill which seeks to streamline India’s fragmented tax system with a single levy. Indian businesses have been lobbying for the single tax rate as it would reduce costs, particularly for shipping goods across state borders. The bill was passed by the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian parliament, last year, but it has been stuck in the upper house of parliament, or the Rajya Sabha, where Modi’s BJP does not have a majority.”

Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Muppavarapu Venkiah Naidu – was heard telling reporters thus:

“There is a broad consensus, with a few reservations. Tamil Nadu being a manufacturing state has opposed the bill. Congress wants a cap on tax rate in the constitution bill but it is not feasible and advisable… The GST bill is pending for the last eight years.”

Is Naidu being economical with the truth?

As per the current system prevalent in India local taxes’ rates range between 5% and 14.5%. That is what one reads on paper. When translated into action, evasion of commercial taxes is the most happening thing.

“India’s current, corrupt, convoluted taxation system and its applicability are more confusing than the explanation of geometry’s backbone – the Pythagoras Theorem penned in Double-Dutch and Triple-Greek,” remarked a Delhi wag at the Press Club of India’s bar, the other day.

The National Democratic Alliance [NDA] regime claims the passage of the bill would improve India’s GDP by at least 2%.

The idea is seconded by most trade bodies.

India copies most of its laws – the United Kingdom – where Value-Added-Tax or VAT is in vogue for nearly 2 decades. Its salient features excerpted from the relevant Wikipedia dossier:

Value-added tax (VAT) is a consumption tax levied in the United Kingdom by the national government. Introduced in 1973, it is the third largest source of government revenue after income tax and National Insurance. It is administered and collected by HM Revenue and Customs. The relevant law is – the Value Added Tax Act 1994.

VAT is levied on most goods and services provided by registered businesses in the UK and some goods and services imported from outside the European Union.

The current default VAT rate is the standard 20% ad valorem since 4 January 2011.

Under EU law, the standard rate of VAT in any EU state cannot be lower than 15%.

VAT is tax levied on sale of goods and services by those who raise invoices upon getting paid.

Examples: A lawyer’s or an accountant’s or a political advisor’s or a PR agency’s fee could be £100 plus VAT. The grocer’s bill for monthly supplies for home could be £200 plus VAT. A restaurant bill could be £24 plus VAT. Selling and buying sans an invoice is an offence in the UK. And VAT has to be clearly mentioned in every memo – cash/credit-card-swipe-record and/or credit invoice. At least 95% of transactions are made through credit and/or debit cards or cheques or internet banking.

Its critics say the system is loaded against the consumer.

The producer who has paid VAT on raw materials to create the finished product gets a refund on the tax. So do the stockists/wholesalers and retailers. The final burden falls on the consumer whose pay-out covers the taxes on each mark up from factory to point of sale.

Illustration: A 1 litre bottle of potable drinking water may cost £0.25 at the factory and end up at £2.40 at the final point when sold through a retailer. Of this, the consumer would have ended up paying £1.40 as VAT on a product that costs a mere £0.25 originally. Along the way, every outlet would have collected its profit margin and have the option of only paying corporate tax at the end of the year after a lot of tax-planning through experienced chartered accountants.

No such luxury is available to the end-user.

[Figures are merely illustrative and artificially kept arithmetically simple.]

In the United Kingdom, there is no guarantee as to whether the money paid by the  consumer finally as VAT – thereby underwriting the burdens of all the industrialists and their distribution networks’ movers and shakers – is put to proper use at all. Worse, the collection methods themselves leave a lot unsaid.

Criminal evasion is tacitly admitted to by the British Government itself!

A simple catechism to explore the viability of GST in India – fashioned on VAT in vogue elsewhere in the globe:

Lawyers, finance-professionals, PR agencies et al have a sizeable portion of their dealings done in cash. Reasons for the same is a criminally bent, corrupt section of the judiciary, tax authorities and parliamentarians.

Would anyone in his/her right mind, honestly reflect the fees and collect GST through printed invoices as mandated by the GST bill if and when it comes into effect?

Answer: NO!

Most of the groceries and other knick-knacks are sold through small, family run outlets who never issue cash memos. The outlets themselves buy their supplies from stockists, paying in cash.

In that scenario, what would be the chances of the stringent GST clauses producing tangible results in letter and spirit?

Answer: Close to zero!

The ruling NDA is currently accusing UPA constituents of meaningless and vain obfuscation. The leading constituent of the opposition UPA – the Indian National Congress avers that the NDA had done the same in the past. Both entities deny the charges.

On the basis of the facts stated above and the distinct prognosis scenarios pointed out earlier, are the political moves to get the law passed or the conspiracies to delay its passage in the Rajya Sabha perceivable as serving the interests of the voting public?

The answer: NO!

So, what, pray is this exercise all about?

In India, tax evasion is a national sport says a Bloomberg report:

India loses 14 trillion rupees ($314 billion) from tax evasion annually, depriving it of funds for investment in roads, ports, and power, says Arun Kumar, author of The Black Economy in India. General government tax revenue is an estimated 18 percent of India’s $1.5 trillion in gross domestic product, the lowest among the four BRIC nations, International Monetary Fund data show. With so little revenue coming in, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is now attempting India’s biggest overhaul of the tax code in half a century.

Quartz reveals a softer sinister underbelly.

Only about 12.5 million Indians — or 1% of the total population—paid tax on their earnings in fiscal 2013. Although 28.7 million filed tax returns that year, 16.2 million got away without paying any tax, data shows.

Dalit leader and Bahujan Samaj Party [BSP] supremo Mayawati was referred to very unprintably by Dayashankar Singh, recently sacked senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader in Uttar Pradesh around the start of the Monsoon Session of Parliament. He was promptly expelled from the party.

The end result is that Mayawati has virtually become the rallying point to unite against the BJP in the election bound north Indian cow-belt state of Uttar Pradesh. Modi’s reported foe within the Union Cabinet – Finance Minister Arun Jaitley tacitly eggs this opposition unity on, as can be discerned from reports.

The bitter fact, India Today pointed out recently, is that Dalits are worse off despite 68 years of India’s independence.

During the run-up to the 2012 assembly polls, the BBC quietly exposed Mayawati.

Mayawati was almost buried in the quicksand of UP politics till Dayashankar put his foot into his mouth.

Excerpts from Vidya Subramanian’s report in The Hindu after the 2014 parliament elections:

The Bharatiya Janata Party’s performance in Uttar Pradesh has been beyond belief. But equally incredible, if in reverse, is the Bahujan Samaj Party’s devastation in the State.

The BJP’s conquest is as epic as the BSP’s fall. The BJP has bettered the best predictions with a humongous 71 seats — 14 more than its 1998 high of 57. With a zero score, the BSP has done worse than the worst forecast, regressing 30 years to the time it was born. Perhaps even this does not fully capture the BSP’s ignominy because, in contrast to today, 1984 was a year of hope and optimism: it marked the start of a remarkable political journey for which there are few parallels.

Dayashankar is yet to be arrested, despite the filing of a First Information Report.

Despite being notorious for its violent means of protest in the past, the current agitation against the slur against Mayawati has been very peaceful, as is indicated in a report in The Hindu. Excerpts:

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) workers called off their agitation in Lucknow against former Uttar Pradesh BJP vice-president Dayashankar Singh for his abusive remarks against their party chief Mayawati. Police promised to arrest Singh within the next 36 hours.

Lucknow District Magistrate Raj Shekhar told BSP workers that a manhunt for Singh was on following registration of an FIR at the Hazratganj police station.

Following the categorical and time-bound assurance, BSP leader Naseemuddin Siddiqui said the agitation was called off.

Should one suspect that one of India’s cleverest politicians and former wrestler Mulayam Singh Yadav – in a desperate bid to keep the BJP out – stage-managed the slur on Mayawati through Dayashankar and got the opposition to make a serious attempt to unite temporarily in UP?

Would that be the germination of a plan to prepare the ground for the 2019 elections against the ruling National Democratic Alliance led by Narendra Modi?

If true, is that a pathetic attempt to con Indians’ senses?

The Navjot Singh Sidhu drama has taken a queer turn following a revelation by a senior Punjab BJP leader Vijay Sampla. Operative excerpts from a Press Trust of India report indicate the ex-cricketer is still part of the party:

Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu, who resigned from Rajya Sabha membership recently, is still in BJP and does not have any “personal grudge” against the party, Punjab BJP Chief Vijay Sampla said.

“Navjot Singh Sidhu is still in the BJP. Therefore the question of his return to the party does not arise. He is still in BJP and he has not resigned from the membership of BJP,” Sampla, who is a minister of state in Modi government, told reporters in Chandigarh.

Should one assume that the whole thing was a chimera to divert attention from other vital issues as Sidhu is a known media personality judging several reality shows on television channels?

If this isn’t a pathetic attempt to con the senses of India, what else can it be?

Indian Air Force AN-32 aircraft, travelling from Chennai to Port Blair went missing above the Bay of Bengal with 29 people on board on July 22 2016. The plane took off from Tambaram air base in the outskirts of India’s 4th largest metropolis Chennai at 8.30 am. It went missing from the radar at 9.12 am, 280 km east of Chennai.

According to reports, the aircraft was flying at a height less than 30,000 feet above mean sea level.

The acronym AN stands for Antonov – a sturdy Russian aircraft.

The plane’s basics:

Aircraft going missing is old news and is always meant to fool the public.

The tale of MH 370 is one such mystery that will never be declared solved in official terms.

The search would be called off soon, it was announced.

In 1968, a Russian built AN-12-BL-534 aircraft carrying 98 defence personnel crashed near the Rohtang pass.

The likelihood of Pakistani involvement was not ruled out, said a report in the Indian Express.

This isn’t the first ‘AN-32 mystery’.

On 25 March 1986, an Indian Air Force An-32 disappeared over the Indian Ocean on a delivery flight from the Soviet Union (via Muscat, Oman.) No trace was ever found of the aircraft or its three crew and four passengers. Reference: Ranter, Harro and Fabian I. Lujan. “ASN Aircraft accident: Antonov 32 K2729 Jamnagar, India.” Aviation Safety Network, 2004.

July 15 1990 saw an accident involving an AN-32 aircraft that left 5 occupants dead. It had taken off from Tambaram airbase. Despite the passage of 26 years, the final report as to what led to the crash is yet to be finalised by India’s Ministry of Defence, a report published by Aviation Safety Network said.

On 10 June 2009, an Indian Air Force, An-32 transport aircraft carrying 13 people crashed close to India-China border in Arunachal Pradesh.

All the 13 people on board were reportedly killed.

Almost immediately after the crash, India inked a $US400 million deal with Ukraine for an An-32 fleet upgrade. The upgrade, reports said, could extend the life of the aircraft by nearly 15 years.

The question to be asked is:

Why has the ‘black box’ of the AN32 aircraft not been located so far?

A flight data recorder [FDR], colloquially known as a black box, [actually sporting orange-coloured skin] is an electronic recording device present in every aircraft since 1967. It facilitates the investigation of aviation mishaps.

The flight data recorder (FDR) is a device that preserves the recent history of the flight through the recording of dozens of parameters collected several times per second. The cockpit voice recorder (CVR) preserves the recent history of the sounds in the cockpit including the conversation of the pilots. The two recorders give an accurate testimony, narrating the aircraft’s flight history, to assist in any later investigation.

The FDR and CVR may be combined in a single unit.

International Civil Aviation Organization has specified that the FDR-CDR unit should be capable of surviving conditions in worst air-accidents. They are designed to withstand an impact of 3400 g and temperatures of over 1,000 °C (1,830 °F) as required by EUROCAE ED-112.

A modern FDR is governed by ICAO Annex 6 which makes reference to industry crashworthiness and fire protection specifications such as those to be found in the European Organisation for Civil Aviation Equipment[27] documents EUROCAE ED55, ED56 fiken A and ED112 (Minimum Operational Performance Specification for Crash Protected Airborne Recorder Systems).

The ARINC Standards are prepared by the Airlines Electronic Engineering Committee (AEEC). The 700 Series of standards describe the form, fit, and function of avionics equipment installed predominately on transport category aircraft. The FDR is defined by ARINC Characteristic 747. The CVR is defined by ARINC Characteristic 757.

ARINC Characteristic 757 stipulates that pilots cannot access the controls or switches associated with the CVR and its operation is fully automatic. The   recorder   system   is   powered through a 1-ampere 115 Vac circuit breaker. It carries a label RECORDER POWER/FLT. It is located on the co-pilot’s sidewall circuit breaker panel.  When the plane crash lands on water, the CVR’s   self-contained battery, an electronic module and appended transducer get activated automatically. The unit emits ‘pings’ [pulsed acoustic signals] at intervals of 2 seconds each for the next 30 days incessantly at depths up to 20,000 feet. The pings are heard all over the world through most communications’ satellites. India has 84 of them.

According to the Wikipedia dossier, the Bay of Bengal occupies an area of 2,172,000 square km. Average depth is 2,600 m (8,500 feet). Maximum depth is 4,694 metres or15,400 feet.

Simply put, there is virtually no way that the plane can ‘go completely missing’ as the Indian regime wants its public to believe.

If the pilots had lost control, the plane would need at least 5 minutes to touch the sea, giving the pilots enough time to transmit the Mayday signal.

So far, no report has surfaced.

The alternative cause for such a disappearance is that the plane could have been shot down by yet to be identified enemies.

According to press reports, Chinese submarines stealthily patrol the Bay of Bengal.

The simple questions that need answers:

Did a stealth enemy submarine shoot the IAF plane down causing it to suddenly disappear from the radar screens?

Did such a missile have a chemical powerful enough to melt the CVR?

Is that why one is unable to locate the debris and the CVR?

If the answers to the 3 questions are in the affirmative, the original queries should be asked again:

Is there an eerie link between the “vanished state” of the GST bill awaiting the nod in Rajya Sabha and the “disappearance” of an IAF AN32 aircraft over the Bay of Bengal?

Is there an “enemy action” angle that is being hidden by India’s defence establishment?

Have Indian politicians reached a consensus to con the senses of the common public over vital issues that stumble the progress of Bharat?
