Diwali Greetings With A Difference!

O compatriot Indian!

I wish your Deepavali is happier

Next year

By then

Let us hope

O sentinel of our borders

Your OROP is really through

And the money is in your hands

The clothes and equipment

Meant to help your stressful vigil

In our Himalayan borders

Really keep the cold out

Your family back home feels

Safer from local anti-social elements

Your home is free of

Illegal encroachments by rowdies

The cross-border enemy

Learns what constitutes

Legal battles

O sister

You are able to tread

Free of fear

From lecherous rapists

Sexual favour demanding bosses

Crooked relatives ogling at you

Criminals waiting to snatch your costly neckwear

Or MCP criminal caste warlords

In the beaten tarmac paths

Of urban concrete jungles

And/or the dusty

Weather-beaten rural countryside

O brother

Your pocket isn’t picked

By shady phone companies

Fraudulent hawkers

Selling faulty ‘discounted’ wares

Your rightful promotion

Arrives routinely

You are still gainfully employed

And not exploited as now

Cops stop fleecing you

Politicians really keep

Their election promises

Pothole ridden

Roads are rendered travel-worthy

Sans encroachments

Jay-walkers et al

O Mother Bharat

China learns

The meaning of economic rape

Pakistan understands

There is no difference between

Cannot be classified as

State and/or non-state actors

Lanka deciphers

The import of human rights

Of linguistic minorities

And you are finally

Rid of

The camouflaged colonial chains

Continuing to snag your freedom

But then

I happen to know

All this is and shall always be

Wishful thinking
