Is the unconfirmed tale of Dawood’s life-threatening illness a bargaining chip during the ongoing tête-tête between Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry and his Indian counterpart Jaishankar?
The audio of a Dawood aide [supposed to be Chota Shakeel] flatly denied the report.
Here are the points that place several question marks in what could be yet another Paki shenanigan:
Gangrene does not occur suddenly and is certainly not [repeat not] a life-threatening malady.
Wet gangrene is caused by untreated diabetes or long term tobacco abuse when blood-flow is blocked in veins and/or arteries. The result is a stagnation of bacterially infected plasma. The emission of a putrid smell is the surest sign of danger. Usually, it occurs in lower limbs. To save the patient’s life, emergency salvage amputation – guillotine type – in the worst case scenario – is done. Later, the amputation can be ‘formalised’ in the same operation theatre. Supply of a prosthetic limb would ensure the patient’s return to ‘near normalcy’.
Dawood is believed to live in ultimate luxury in Karachi – a modern Pakistani city.
He is under Pakistani military protection – 24/7/365.
Expecting such a person’s health to suddenly deteriorate – that too due to diabetic complications – is simply unbelievable.
Operative paragraphs from my blog published on March 21 2016.
In August 2013, during the release of his book – Cricket Cauldron: The Turbulent Politics of Sport in Pakistan – Shahryar Khan was quoted as saying thus:
Dawood [Ibrahim] was in Pakistan but I believe he was chased out of Pakistan. If he is in Pakistan, he should be hounded and arrested. We cannot allow such gangsters to operate from the country.
I think he is in the UAE. The Nawaz Sharif government is very much in favour of taking action against criminals who not only affect Pakistan but also any other country, whether it is India or Afghanistan or wherever. We cannot allow criminals to flourish in the country.
Pakistan has been in favour of discussions with the Taliban of the more moderate ilk. But a large number are not moderate. Pakistan remains inclined to talk only to the reasonable ones.
“I was asked a question about Dawood Ibrahim and I said only what has been already reported. They (media) twisted my statement. I have never, not in the past as foreign secretary, not now, have known where Mr Ibrahim lives. I was only reflecting what the Pakistani press has been saying. I have no knowledge nor is it my remit,” he had told an Indian TV as the controversy erupted.
Shahryar Khan is a former foreign secretary of Pakistan who also was and is a cricket administrator.
Dawood’s gang-members control a vast swathe of India’s financial capital – Mumbai. The matter is in public domain and was reported in these columns two months ago. A detailed dossier was sent to the PMO. Its only result was that a stupid attempt was made by corrupt sections of Mumbai police to accord protection to this writer – which was turned down with the contempt it deserved.
Will someone tell the truth please?
